staying warm

It has been so cold and dreary here in New York City.
All I wanted to do was curl up in my sofa, drink hot coco and watch TV.
It takes ages to dress up and all I ever see outside is a sea of black coats and freezing faces.
Bleak isn't it?

But sometimes when I feel the fashion juices running through my veins, I get inspired
and try to put more effort on how I dress these days.







It helps too that this Emilio Pucci cable knit dress is so unbelievably warm and cozy.
It's as if I brought my comforter with me! (It's quite heavy also.)

Another way to stay warm and one of the reasons I'm convinced to step out of my apartment is great food.
We love taking advantage of NYRW!

dining on the cheap

artisinal is one of new york city's most popular restaurants (as rated by zagat).
it's also one of the best places to go to for brunch.
and if you love cheese and wine, this place is heaven!



we went there last sunday, and guess how much our bill was? $2.17!!!!!
(we did have to add a little bit for tip ofcourse).



what's our secret? before i tell you, let me show you first what we got to eat for our brunch prix-fixe (3 course meal).


caramelized peach crepe, sausage and egg, sauteed skate wing (superb!), english cheddar sandwich, creme brulee, baba au rhum

so here was what we did:
1. for the past 3 weeks, nyc is having a restaurant week. it's a unique opportunity to experience nyc's finest restaurants for cheap. 3 course meals for $24.07 (lunch) or $35.00 (dinner). not bad, right?
2. OPENTABLE! it is available in most of the major US cities as well as some other countries (such as germany and singapore). the concept is that for every restaurant reservation you made and kept through them, you get 100 points. these points accumulate as what happened for us and we were able to get a cheque for $50 (equivalent to 5000 points). there are 1000 points restaurants, which we almost always choose when we eat out, so we could accumulate the points much faster. it's like free money! :)

3. we did not order any drinks. just plain tap water. i know, we are cheap like that :).

so here's the math...
$24.07 (prix-fixe brunches) x 2 (people) + 8% (tax) - $50 (opentable cheque) = $2.17!!!

quite amazing, huh?
